Photography Ideas for Summer Wedding Themes

Let's ponder a while about themes for Summer Wedding Photography and get some ideas.

Getting married in June, July or August? Forget the beach – it’s so cliché!

(Well, it might be if you live in sunny climes but here in UK, we'd give an eye-tooth for themes involving a lovely sandy beach!).

That doesn't mean that the beach cannot be utilized as often there will be opportunities for photography of just the bride and groom - and as has been said elsewhere on this site, it provides a little alone time for the couple.

While starfish and seashells might be the perfect option for some brides, we both know that your day needs to be unique. themes-beach-bride-and-groom The fact is, not all summer settings are cliché. The secret to make your day special lies in the details. You don’t need to bash your guests over your head with your ideas; instead, choose a few places to let them know what look you’re going for.

A popular statement right now is “going green” or organic weddings. This idea is perfectly suited for summer because it’s the best time of the year to get local, organic food and flowers. Play this up by using various shades of green as your basic colors. It might not be the most obvious thing to do, but the Earth will thank you later.

If you want to be a little more traditional, or you’re planning a mid-afternoon wedding, try an English garden theme. Decorate your venue with flowers traditionally grown in English gardens such as poppies, primroses and lavender. Even better, find a local garden in which to host your wedding. For centerpieces, display a variety of potted flowers in a myriad of sizes, which guests can take home as favors, if they do desire.

Continue the garden idea by providing lots of activities for your guests. One wedding sticks in the mind, where guests played rounders, others painted or sketched and younger children had various toys to amuse them in a garden setting. The photographer is then able to capture spontaneous images of people immersed in their particular activity.

Finally, nothing says summer like the daisy. Yellow and white naturally lend themselves to being the perfect wedding colors, but if you want to go bolder, draw inspiration from gerber daisies, which come in a multitude of eye-popping colors. You can easily overwhelm your guests with daisies, so try to not go crazy when selecting where to place these sweet reminders of summer. Obviously, daisies will be included in your centerpieces -- if you’re going for a country-chic look, try placing a bunch of daisies in a small galvanized steel or copper bucket. You can also insert daisies in other places – a wedding cake would look beautiful topped with daisies and daisy images would look great adorning paper products such as invitations and place cards. Naturally, a bouquet of daisies is the only thing for brides and bridesmaids to carry.

If you want to invoke the feeling of summer without an obvious theme, do so using the colors of your wedding. While jewel tones, browns and blacks are best for winter weddings, bright, bold colors work perfectly during summer – think Kelly green, bright pink, royal blue or violet.
